TV tonight: globetrotting smash-hit Race Across the World returns

8pm, BBC OneTime to strap on the big rucksacks again, as the BBC’s globetrotting hit returns for a sixth series. The starting gun is in Sicily, where five duos psych themselves up for a 12,000km yomp through Europe and Asia without access to flights, phones or much in the way of funds. Their ultimate goal? Northern Mongolia (and a £20,000 prize if they are first). Graeme Virtue

8pm, Channel 5At Grantley Hall, preparations ramp up for its first Halloween party, with interior and ambience manager Marek racing to spook up the hotel with pumpkins and pop-up coffins. Meanwhile, Michelin-starred chef Shaun Rankin hosts a high-stakes champagne event, and might regular guests Phil and Francis receive a romantic surprise? Ali Catterall

9pm, BBC OneThe contest to find Britain’s most annoying young entrepreneur intensifies, with the remaining candidates now foisted on the unsuspecting pet industry. Both teams must design a new animal-related product and then construct a social media campaign to promote it – despite being manifestly short of experience, time and common sense. Jack Seale

9pm, BBC Two

This documentary explores the fate of British Midland Airways flight 092, which crashed into the embankment of the M1 in 1989, with 47 fatalities. Using expert analysis, this film examines cause and effect, and wonders if the lives of the plane’s passengers could have been saved. Phil Harrison

10pm, Channel 4As technology plays an ever-increasing role in war, software from companies such as data behemoth Palantir, drones and AI are now ubiquitous on the battlefield. This frequently terrifying one-off considers the reality of big tech’s involvement in conflicts such as Gaza, with anonymised contributions from ex-Israeli intelligence analysts. Hannah J Davies

10.40pm, BBC OneIt could be argued that Harry Clark’s behaviour in season two of The Traitors lacked a little Christian virtue. Harry is a Catholic but very much of the lapsed variety; in this documentary, he visits Rome and Vatican City in order to attempt to reconnect with his faith. PH
